Today many types of beans are grown commercially and as specialty crops, including bush bean, fava, lima and pole bean varieties like dwarf French tendergreen, broad Windsor and Kentucky wonder. Bean plants are vulnerable to insect infestations. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Description

    • Permethrin is a chemical derived from pyrethroids, naturally occurring insecticides found in chrysanthemums. This broad-spectrum pesticide can be used to kill insects in adult, egg and larval stages, as it is effective two ways: a stomach poison when ingested and a knockdown poison after direct contact with the pest. Permethrin also has mild repellent effects.

    Pest Control

    • Permethrin provides pest control for a wide range of insects that attack bean plants. Use permethrin to combat infestations of aphids, corn earworms, cucumber beetles, leafhoppers, Mexical bean beetles and stinkbugs that infest bean plants. Permethrin is also effective against bean leaf beetles, which feed on snap beans and soybeans, as well as cutworms.

    Caution

    • Whenever using insecticides, read product labels carefully and use as directed. Although permethrin carries low toxicity ratings for humans, avoid contact with your eyes, skin and clothing.
