Height

Taller fences cost more. According to the Washington Post, in the same location where a 3-foot-tall cedar picket fence costs around $15 to $20 per linear foot, a 6-foot privacy fence of equal length costs $30 per linear foot because of the additional material required.

Extras

Extras such as gates, stain and other surface treatments can increase the price of a cedar fence. For example, according to CostHelper, each extra gate adds between $100 and $250 to the cost of the fence, depending on the gate's size and complexity.
