Oil Guidelines for Chinese Scooters

There are two kinds of Chinese scooter engines -- four stroke and two stroke. While two-stroke engines mix gasoline and oil and thus have no need for an oil change, four-stroke engines do require oil changes.

  1. Frequency of Oil Changes

    • On 50cc, 150cc and 200cc Chinese scooters, the engine oil should be changed every 1,000 miles or so. The transmission oil, on the other hand, only needs to be changed every 2,000 miles. This will help maximize the life of the engine.

    Oil Temperature

    • When changing the oil, it is important to ensure that the oil inside the motorcycle is warm. This will help it flow more easily and makes the oil-changing job much easier. The best way to do this is to start the motorcycle and let it run for a few minutes. Oil changes may be performed after a long ride, but there is a danger that you will burn your hands as the oil and engine will both be very hot.

    Oil Types

    • It is important to check user manuals for appropriate engine oil types, but 10-30W and 15-40W engine oil are usually the best for four-stroke engines. For transmission oil, 80W-90 is recommended.
