Friction Reducing Treatments at Jiffy Lube

Car engines need regular service to prevent excessive wear from friction.

Jiffy Lube is a chain of more than 2,000 automotive centers that specialize in quick maintenance-oriented service rather than major repairs. The Signature Service covers not only the engine oil but also offers inspection and service of other engine fluids.

  1. Oil Change

    • The oil in the engine block serves as a lubricating film between moving parts, thus reducing wear caused by friction, and it also carries away dirt and combustion by-products. Over time, the oil's efficiency drops and it needs to be replaced.

    Transmission Fluid

    • In both automatic and manual transmissions, the transmission fluid needs replacing periodically. Jiffy Lube offers a basic drain-and-fill service for just the fluid, or a more extensive version that also replaces the transmission filter.

    Drivetrain Service

    • Friction-reducing treatments for the drivetrain replace fluids in the differential, a system of gears that transfer power from the engine to the wheels. In four-wheel- and all-wheel-drive vehicles, this service also includes replacement of the transfer case fluid.

    Chassis Lubrication

    • While many newer model cars are produced with sealed chassis requiring no further lubrication, other models need regular inspection and replacement of the grease fittings, called zerks, which prevent excessive friction in the chassis' suspension components.
