Natural Dandelion Weed Killers
Dandelions remain a difficult pest for gardens and turfgrasses. Although chemicals such as isoxaben, glyphosphate, 2-4 D and triclopyr may be effective dandelion weed killers, some gardeners may prefer more natural methods. Does this Spark an idea?

Corn Gluten
-
According to the Ohio State University Extension, corn gluten, a byproduct of the corn syrup manufacturing process, is an effective, organic dandelion weed killer. It must be applied before the seeds emerge, since it keeps young germinating seeds from developing roots.
The Role of Hand Weeding
-
Perhaps the best way to control dandelions naturally is with diligent cultural practices. As noted by Assistant Professor Philip Busey from the University of Florida, pulling weeds by hand has long been known to reduce dandelion populations and prevent new growth. Whether you use natural products or not, hand weeding should always be combined with use of chemical or non-chemical products.

Preventive Practices
-
Other helpful control practices include regular tillage of garden soil and mowing the dandelion heads before they have the chance to go to seed. Mulching soil may also help prevent the growth and spread of dandelion plants, as will regular fertilization.
