The United States Department of Agriculture partners with each state university's agricultural departments to bring information about gardening to those who want it. Excluding some classes, this information is free and can be obtained by contacting the university extension in your county.
Local nurseries

When going to your local nursery or garden shop to select seeds and plants, find out all the information that you can from those that work there. Most of the time, they have experience and knowledge that can be very useful. These individuals have local knowledge and will be able to tell you location specific information about vegetable gardening in your area.
