Tiger lilies grow from bulbs and return year after year.

Tiger lilies (L. tigrinum) are perennial flowers that are easy to grow. The lilies propagate through bulbs, which are generally planted in the early fall. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Description

    • Tiger lilies grow 4 to 5 feet in height and bloom with large, showy orange flowers that have wide petals speckled with black. They have a strong, sweet lily scent. Tiger lilies grow best in full sun and are able to adapt to a variety of soils.

    Bulbs and Propagation

    • Tiger lilies, like most lilies, grow from bulbs. Once the bulbs are planted, they reproduce naturally, dividing into parts to form new bulbs and, thus, new lilies. Over the years, the bulbs may become crowded and will need to be divided by hand. This is usually necessary every three to four years.

    Bloom Time

    • Tiger lilies bloom in the midsummer from July to August. Bulbs planted in the fall will bloom during this time and will re-bloom in midsummer the following year.
