The Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool checks Windows-based computers for infections by malicious software. The virus removal tool looks for viruses such as Blaster, Sasser and Mydoom and removes these and any other infections found.

Virus Definition Updates

As of January 2011, an updated version of the Malicious Software Removal Tool is released on the second Tuesday of each month and as needed to respond to security incidents.
Versions

Microsoft Update and Windows Update install a version of the Malicious Software Removal Tool that runs in the background and reports if an infection is found. To run the Malicious Software Removal Tool more than once a month, you must install the version that is available in the Microsoft Download Center (see Resources).
