Distilled vinegar has many uses.

When you think about vinegar, you tend to focus on its most common uses, which are pickling and for salad dressing. Consuming white distilled vinegar has many uses, many of which can be beneficial to your health. While distilled vinegar is natural and very versatile, there are some disadvantages to consuming it as well.

  1. Types

    • There are several types of vinegar. A few common types are apple cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar and red wine vinegar. Distilled vinegar is also know as white vinegar or white distilled vinegar.

    Function

    • White distilled vinegar is used in food products such as mayonnaise and ketchup. It is also used for cleaning. Because it has a high acidity level, it is commonly used in cleaning and disinfecting. Other common uses include getting out offensive odors, laundry care and lawn maintenance.

    Benefits

    • In addition to cleaning, white distilled vinegar is commonly used because of its health benefits. According to the Vinegar Institute, vinegar can be ingested to relieve sore throats and can be mixed with water to form a mixture to be used in a vaporizer. The vapors are inhaled and are said to relieve chest congestion.

    Disadvantages

    • While white distilled vinegar can be very beneficial, many choose to ingest other types of vinegars because white vinegar has a very strong taste and a strong odor.
