Gear Drive Oil Treatment

Gear Drive Oil Treatment thumbnail
Your muscle car needs gear oil and gear oil additives to protect the drive train.

To keep your car in excellent running condition, you must check the oil in the engine, the coolant in the radiator and even the brake and steering fluids. You must also check the gear oil in the transmission and in the differential to be sure that the car is ready to go.

  1. Drive Train

    • Whether you have an explosive muscle car engine or a less muscular economy engine, the power and torque must get from the engine to the wheels. This is done through a a system of gears including the transfer case, the transmission and the differential.

    Gear Oil

    • The drive train contains some of the most complicated and rapidly moving parts in a car, so you have to keep the drive train well lubricated to prevent wear and tear. The lubricant used to do this is called gear oil. Gear oil has a higher viscosity than engine oil to protect the components of the drive train.

    Gear Oil Additives

    • Since the power train is such a hard-working part of your car, you want to keep it in top shape. Adding an anti-wear additive to the gear oil will coat the gears with a material that helps prevent the breakdown of the metal. You can also find additives that prevent rust.
