How Tall Is the Mint Plant Flower?

The mint family has over 20 members. Some of the more popular types include peppermint, spearmint and watermint. All members of the mint family are perennial plants that grow quickly in the right environment. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Growth

    • The spearmint plant grows to approximately 12 to 25 inches and blooms pink and white flowers. Watermint is one of the tallest with a maximum height of 35 inches. The popular peppermint is a hybrid of watermint and spearmint and grows between 12 and 35 inches and produces purple flowers.

    Culture

    • Mint plants prefer rich, moist soils over dryer, coarser varieties, and they like the soil to be slightly acidic. They require locations in full sun or at least partial shade. During the growing season, mint plants need 1 to 2 inches of water each week. Over-watering should be avoided at all costs, as it leads to diseases.

    Fertilization

    • One application of a slow-release fertilizer applied to the soil in the early spring will adequately supply mint plants. Each plant should get an additional application of 1 tsp. of 16-16-16 fertilizer once it resumes growing later in the spring.
