Coolsat is a free-to-air satellite receiver.

Coolsat is a free-to-air satellite receiver designed to legally receive free satellite transmissions. Autoroll is a feature incorporated into Coolsat devices as well as other FTA receivers to make them easier to use.

  1. Why

    • Providers of satellite television set "keys" that are used to access their broadcasts. Older FTA receivers were designed to have keys manually entered. However, as time went on, providers began changing keys frequently as a security measure, making it necessary for receivers to automatically compute the key. This feature in newer receivers became known as "autoroll."

    How

    • Keys are a sequence of 16 alphanumeric characters. Autoroll is a sub-program inside FTA receivers like the Coolsat that automatically changes keys when appropriate to continue receiving a signal.

    Other Features

    • There are hundreds of channels viewable with a FTA receiver. Many of the channels are international language channels or special interest channels. FTA systems do not receive package programming channels such as CNN and ESPN.
