Polycarbonate Sheet Tech Information

Polycarbonate is a type of plastic used to manufacture a variety of products for different industries. Polycarbonate sheets have properties including toughness, high heat and electrical resistance, and optical clarity.

Types

The U.S. federal government divides polycarbonate sheets into four classifications. Type I is a standard sheet, Type II is flame resistant, Type III is mar resistant and contains UV-stabilizing additives, and Type IV is a coated sheet with a UV-resistant surface.

Standards

Polycarbonate plastic sheets must meet standards dependent upon their final use. For example, the ASTM D635 standard measures the time and extent of burning of plastics in a horizontal position.

Uses

Polycarbonate sheets are used for architectural glazing and windows because of their clear consistency. Food and medical product handling, aircraft interiors and bus shelters also use the plastic material.
