Specifications for a 400 Small Block Chevrolet Truck Camshaft

The Chevrolet 400 engine is optional on the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD pickup truck. The diesel engine is powerful enough to endure heavy towing and also provides the truck with a large boost in performance.

  1. General Camshaft Information

    • The camshaft uses mechanical roller valve lifters. The pistons have a firing order of pistons 1, 2, 7, 8, 4, 5, 6 and 3.

    Camshaft Torque Specs

    • One rod connecting the pistons to the crankshaft has 35, a second 45 and a third 75 foot-pounds of torque. The bolts connecting the cylinder head to the engine block, intake manifold and exhaust manifold have 65, 33 and 20 foot-pounds of torque, respectively. The bolts connecting the timing chain to the camshaft have 20 foot-pounds of torque.

    • The Chevrolet 400 diesel engine has a displacement of 400 cubic inches, or 6.6 liters. It has a bore/stroke of 4.06/3.90 inches and a compression ratio of 16-to-1. The turbocharged engine has a peak horsepower of 397 at 3,000 rpm and a peak torque of 765 at 1,600 rpm.
