Computer Problems With OneCare & Windows Vista

Windows Live OneCare is a system monitoring and security tool that released by Microsoft. If you are experiencing issues with the software on Windows Vista, you can troubleshoot the problems a few different ways.

  1. Uninstall and Reinstall

    • Problems such as missing or corrupted files can be solved by uninstalling and reinstalling the application. Remove the program via Control Panel, then reinstall it using the original setup file or DVD. You can also try a System Restore to repair damage done to the registry file entries associated with OneCare.

    Disable Other Software

    • On occasion, OneCare may cause conflicts with other security tools running on your PC. Try disabling other antivirus and firewall applications one at a time to see if the issue is resolved. Updating to the latest versions of these separate programs may fix the compatibility issues.

    Further Help

    • Microsoft offers a dedicated support center online for the OneCare product. Note, however, that the software has been discontinued, and live support is no longer provided. Users can switch to the Microsoft Security Essentials program as a replacement.
