Abdera Protocol
The Abdera Protocol was created by IBM, but then passed on to the Apache Software Foundation, an open source software development organization. It is a system for web feeds.
-
Background
-
Abdera is based on the Internet Engineering Task Force's Atom system. This is an alternative to the RSS, or Really Simple Syndication, method of providing web feeds. The protocol is expressed in two standards: the Atom Syndication Format and the Atom Publishing Protocol. The development of the protocol was considered complete in January 2009 and finally released in May 2010. Bug fixes and refinements saw more releases later. Development of the protocol is ongoing.
Features
-
The Abdera Protocol produces output in Extensible Markup Language format. The system incorporates encryption with Diffie-Hellman Key Exchange and WSSE authentication.
-
Release
-
The Apache Software Foundation releases the Abdera System as a series of Java objects with class and method details. The object-oriented design can be downloaded free of charge from the Apache website.
