How Often Should I Water Mr. Lincoln Roses?

The Mr. Lincoln rose is an award-winning, hybrid tea rose that produces masses of fragrant, velvety red blooms for much of the summer and autumn. Mr. Lincoln is a hardy rose, and proper watering will keep it looking its best.

How Often to Water

Hybrid tea roses should be watered deeply so the roots have access to the moisture. An inch of water once every seven to 10 days is usually adequate, but the amount of water needed to reach the roots depends on the weather and your soil type. Test the moisture depth after watering using a metal rod or a long screwdriver, then water accordingly. The soil should be moist to a depth of 12 to 18 inches.

How to Water

Water your Mr. Lincoln rose slowly so the water can penetrate the soil. Allow a garden hose to drip around the base of the plant, or use a soaker hose or a drip irrigation system. Avoid overhead watering, as wet foliage is more susceptible to fungus and disease.

When to Water

Watering your Mr. Lincoln rose in the morning or middle of the day ensures that the foliage has enough time to dry before the temperature cools in the evening. Watering in the morning is especially important if you use a sprinkler or other form of overhead watering.
