How to Install a Laptop Modem
Installing a modem on your laptop is a simple process and allows you to connect to the Internet. Whether you are installing a local area network (LAN) card or wireless universal serial bus (USB) modem, your laptop easily detects when new hardware has been connected. All you need to do is decide how you want to connect to the Internet and what modem you would like to use.

Types

You can connect the modem to a laptop with either a LAN, Ethernet cable or USB wireless card. Each modem installation is instant and your computer should recognize the device immediately.
Wireless

If you're using a wireless USB modem, you can connect it directly to your computer through the USB port on the side of the laptop. Most laptops have several USB ports to allow for connections such as a mouse, Webcam and other devices.

Installation CD

Some modem installations may require you to insert an installation CD. All you have to do is insert the installation CD in the CD-ROM and an installation wizard will guide you through the steps of configuring and installing the modem on your computer.
