Microsoft Communication Protocol
Microsoft communication protocol governs how Microsoft communicates with the software development companies that develop applications for the Windows operating system. To facilitate this, Microsoft established the Microsoft Communications Protocol Program, or MCPP.
-
Identification
-
The MCPP ensures that technical documents regarding Windows operating software updates and releases are published at no charge on Microsoft websites and are made available to developers. Published documents include technical specifications, technical references, conceptual background, inter-protocol relationships and interactions.
Function
-
MCPP adheres to a publication and update schedule. The schedule let developers know information such as the details associated with the commercial release of a new beta version of Windows software.
-
Significance
-
Microsoft designed the MCPP to comply with a final judgment in the antitrust case of United States and Microsoft on November 2002. The judgment called for Microsoft to release information and communicate with developers and competitors appropriately to mitigate antitrust concerns within the IT industry.
