How to Troubleshoot Zune Lockup Problems

Check the Hold Button

The hold button will keep the Zune from changing songs or working when any buttons are pushed. Press the button until the hold is taken off and see if the device begins functioning normally.
Reset Your Zune

Make sure that the hold switch of the Zune is turned off. Once it is off, press the up and back buttons on the control pad until you see the Zune logo. The program is resetting and may take a moment to finish.

Connect the Zune to your PC using the USB cable that came with the Zune player. The system should automatically recognize the Zune and begin any software update downloads.
