Spots on a Peace Lily
Peace lilies are evergreen flowers that grow wild in tropical forests. They develop deep green leaves when planted in disease-free soil. While they aren't susceptible to many diseases or pests, any sign of yellow or brown spots is a cause for concern. Does this Spark an idea?

Diseases
-
Peace lilies are capable of getting two types of root rot diseases that also cause yellow or brown spots to appear on leaves. Cylindrocladium spathiphylli causes extensive root damage, and if the released spores land on the leaves, brown circular spots form surrounded by yellow circles. Phytophthora parasitica causes similar spots that lack the yellow circles.
Cultural Problems
-
Brown spots are a sign that the plant isn't getting enough light or air circulation. The leaves will often turn yellow and brown along the edges if not given enough water. Over-fertilization also causes this effect in peace lilies.
-
Considerations
-
To correct spots due to insufficient lighting, take the peace lily outdoors to a shady spot during the summer. Direct sunlight should be avoided. Keep the plant well-watered, though only when needed. Peace lilies that get root rot need a fungicide and raised to benches or saucers with no contact with standing water. Discard heavily infected plants and treat remaining plants.
