What Is Kofax VRS Hardware?

Founded in 1985 and headquartered in Irvine, California, Kofax is a company that specializes in providing computer hardware, software and services. One of its products is the Kofax VRS Elite software application, and it requires certain hardware specifications.

  1. General Description

    • Kofax VRS Elite is designed to automatically examine documents that users wish to scan, then apply the appropriate settings to scan them with optimal quality. According to Kofax, the VRS Elite software is meant to improve the accuracy of optical character recognition (OCR) and handwriting recognition (ICR). Thus this eliminates the need to hire document imaging experts to manually determine scanner settings.

    System Requirements

    • Although Kofax states that users need a computer with at least an Intel Pentium D processor and 2 gigabytes (GB) of random-access memory (RAM) to run the Kofax software, it recommends using one with an Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon 64 X2 processor and 4 GB of RAM. Also, Microsoft Windows is the only operating system compatible with the Kofax VRS Elite.

    Cost and Scanner Compatibility

    • Customers have three purchasing options for the Kofax VRS Elite software, bought directly from Kofax at the company's website. The basic Desktop version has a retail price of $650, the business-oriented Workgroup version costs $1,450 and the top-level Production version is the most expensive at $2,450. Users will need to get a scanner with a USB, SCSI (Small Computer System Interface) or FireWire connector.
