Information on 1976 Ford F-100 Pickup Trucks

The 1976 Ford F-100 truck was a light-duty half-ton truck. It should not to be confused with the 1976 F-150, which could carry a heavier load. The F-150 replaced the F-100 in 1983.

  1. Power

    • The base engine for the 1976 F-100 was 112-hp in-line six-cylinder displacing 240 cubic inches. Optional engines included the 125-hp straight-six displacing 300 cubic inches, the 141-hp 302 V8 and the 145-hp 352 V8. A four-speed manual transmission complemented the six-cylinder engines, and an automatic was available for the V8-powered F-100s.

    Suspension and Brakes

    • The chassis was equipped with Ford's Twin-I-Beam independent front suspension with coil springs. Coil springs and leaf springs cushioned the rear. All-wheel drum brakes or optional disc brakes in the front provided the stopping power.

    Size

    • The basic 1976 F-100 featured a regular cab configuration that seated three adults. A four-door crew cab that seated up to six people was an option. There was also the extended Super Cab. The cargo box measured 6.5 or 8 feet. The F-100 with the regular cab sat on a 117-inch wheelbase with a 6.5-foot cargo box and a 133-inch wheelbase with an 8-foot bed. The Super Cab version rode on a 139-inch wheelbase. The F-100 had a gross vehicle rating of up to 5,500 lbs.
