How to Hook Up Wireless Internet to a Cox Modem
Cox Cable will provide you with a cable modem to get the Internet connection to your home, but to get that signal distributed through your home or office, you need a router.

Purchase a Router

To get the wireless signal, you need a wireless router. The latest wireless technology, as of 2011 is the N technology standard. Find one that fits your needs in terms of compatibility, price and performance.
Connect to Modem

Turn off your modem, there should be a toggle switch on the back. You will need an Ethernet cable to connect the modem to the router, one should have come with your router. Go from the Ethernet port on the modem to the wide area network (WAN) port on the router.

Configure Wireless

The wireless configuration depends on which brand you purchased; refer to your user's manual or the manufacturer's website for detailed instructions. Search for your wireless broadcast, connect to it and enter your password. Your wireless connection will be saved in your computer at this point.
