You can compare the average rate other customers in your area are paying by going to the U.S. Energy Information Administration website. You can click on your state and follow the color-coded chart to see the average retail price, measured in cents per kilowatt hour (kwh). Scroll down the list to see the electricity profile of that state, including the top five retailers of electricity. Click on XLS to open the Excel sheet for more details.
