Printer Alignment Problems
When the cartridges and paper in your printer become misaligned, the results can be a pain. Ink spills, paper jams and ruined documents are just some of the common issues. There are ways to address these problems.
-
Cartridge Misalignment
-
If the ink cartridges in a printer are misaligned or incorrectly installed, the printer may malfunction by printing blank pages or pages with ink smudges. Also, the printer may simply display an error message about the cartridges and refuse to print. Cartridges that are dirty or low on ink can also cause alignment problems.
Paper Alignment and Spooling
-
Paper that has been improperly loaded into the printer can lead to paper jams and damage to delicate parts inside of the printer. How the paper should correctly be loaded into the printer changes based upon the construction and design of the printer. Almost all printers have some sort of indicators showing how paper should properly be loaded.

Setting Up a Test Sheet
-
Printers usually come with a built-in function that can test for proper alignment of all components. This is most often in the form of a test print. Follow your manufacturer's directions to do a test print. This print will reveal any alignment or other problems. Always check the cartridges and paper before printing.
