Types of Insect Pests
-
Common insect pests that attack outdoor potted plants include aphids, spider mites, scale and mealybugs. Slugs can also live in the pot's soil and come out at night to dine on the leaves.
Effects of Insects Moved Indoors

When you move an infested plant into your home from an outdoor setting, the insects can easily move to other houseplants and make the problem worse. Some insects can become household pests that can get into your flour, sugar and other food items.

Organic Sprays and Other Treatments
-
Before you move your potted plants indoors, spray them with your garden hose to knock many insects to the ground. Also, flood the pot with water to flush out ants and slugs. Allow them to air dry and then spray them with insecticidal soap or a combination of soap and canola oil, which will smother hard-bodied insects such as scale.
