Electrical Wiring & Fireplace Flues
A cozy fireplace is a comfortable way to warm up on a cold, winter night. With the advance of technology, electrical wiring to control a fireplace's functions has developed to even include control of the flue's movement. Does this Spark an idea?

Function
-
The electrical wiring for a fireplace is used for those powered by natural gas. Often sold as a set or kit, gas fireplace wiring normally includes a thermostat, plug and switch. This kit is then attached to the closest electrical connection to the fireplace, subsequently controlling the on and off functions, as well as the temperature of the fire itself.
Features
-
Currently, there is another electrical control that can be installed for the flue, which allows the smoke out of the chimney top. Once the fire is turned on, a signal is sent to an installed control at the flue that opens up the cover. After the fire is extinguished, the control then signals to close the flue so that cool air does not draft downward.

Considerations
-
Though many electrical kits are simple to install, it is recommended to have a professional inspect the entire electrical and fireplace setup before powering it up. This ensures that no electrical shorts or possible fire hazards exist.
