Immunization & Criminal Background Compliance
Medical and nursing programs require new students to go through an immunization and criminal background check. This is required for the safety of health care workers in training as well as patients.
-
Measles, Mumps, Rubella
-
These are vaccinations nurses and doctors are expected to have before they begin training for work in a hospital. Because these diseases are so contagious and potentially life threatening to the infirm, new employees and students must have proof they have been vaccinated. These are standard vaccinations most people in the U.S. already have.
Hepatitis, Varicella, Tetanus-Diphtheria
-
People working with the unwell must take extra care to remain healthy themselves. This is why they are required to be immunized against less common diseases such as varicella (chicken pox) and hepatitis. Not as many people are vaccinated against these diseases which is why hospital workers are required to have proof of having received these injections in their medical records.

Criminal Background Check
-
People with access to prescription pain killers and other pharmaceuticals have been known to sometimes steal them. Because of this, new employees are required to undergo a criminal background check to make sure they do not have a history of drug abuse or theft.
