Rose lovers can enjoy public gardens from Northern to Southern California. Seven public gardens in California are registered members of the Historic Roses Federation.   1. San Jose Heritage Rose Garden

    • San Jose is home of the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden. More than 4,500 roses -- from shrubs to hybrids - make themselves at home on the garden's 4.5 acres - all entirely maintained by volunteers.

    Huntington Rose Garden

    • Southern California is home of the Huntington Rose Garden, and its collection of more than 3,000 rose plants, organized as a "collections" of rose history from the Egyptians to the modern age. Roses and roses only, are planted on over 3.5 acres of the garden grounds. Preservation specialties include teas and Chinas, "Old Garden Roses, and early modern roses.

    University of California Botanical Garden at Berkeley

    • Set atop hills at the University of California at Berkeley lies a rose garden with a view of the Golden Gate and San Francisco Bay bridges. This historic garden dates back to 1890, and includes rose cultivars that originate back to its 19th century beginnings.
