What Is the Benefit of Blue Xenon Lights?

Blue xenon lights are also known as high-intensity-discharge headlights. The headlights are named after an inert gas they contain called xenon (pronounced "zeen on"). The gas gives off a blue tinge when it burns.

  1. Brighter Lights

    • The primary benefit of blue xenon lights is that they are brighter. According to AskCars, xenon lights can burn as much as three times brighter than halogen headlights.

    Intensity

    • Blue xenon produces stronger light than the average headlight. If you project one on a wall, the light will produce a more distinct outline instead of gradually fading outward.

    Greater Visibility

    • You can see the road better in the dark or during bad visibility conditions with these lights. Reflective road signs also appear brighter because the ultraviolet light the gas produces makes them glow more.

    More Efficient

    • Xenon gas requires less energy and doesn't need a wire filament to produce light, which means it's less wasteful. The headlights can also last two to three times longer than incandescent ones.
