A Venus Flytrap Is Turning Black

The Venus flytrap is a carnivorous plant that feeds on insects. Although Venus flytraps have a reputation for being fierce, they are very delicate and may turn black if they do not receive the proper care.

Significance

Venus flytraps feed on many types of insects, but they may turn black if they eat the wrong ones or if they eat too much. Do not feed your flytrap ants or large bugs.

Light

Venus flytraps are native to North Carolina and South Carolina. They need warm conditions and plenty of full sunlight to grow. If your Venus flytrap does not receive an adequate amount of sunlight, it might turn black.

Warning

You should not use fertilizer on your Venus flytrap. Using fertilizer is very dangerous for the plant and will make it turn black and die.
