My Peace Lily Is Turning Brown on the End
The peace lily (Spathiphyllum spp.) is a popular houseplant cultivated for its showy white flowers and lush, green foliage. When grown in poor or unstable conditions, peace lilies often respond by producing brown or dry foliage. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Causes
-
Peace lilies may produce brown leaves when under- or overwatered or when grown in bright, full sunlight. Overfertilizing may also cause brown leaves. Though infrequent, pest infestations may also weaken the plant.
Treatment
-
Remove brown, brittle leaves and gently dampen healthy leaves by using a sponge or a spray bottle with warm water. Check the roots by brushing aside the top layer of soil. If the roots look slimy, allow the soil to dry out before watering again.
-
Prevention
-
Avoid moving peace lilies, as changing cultural conditions causes stress to the plant that may result in unsightly brown leaves. Help prevent brown leaves by watering the plant regularly and evenly and by keeping the plant out of direct sunlight.
