Structural drying techniques are used to eliminate water damage caused by floods.

Structural drying is the formal process associated with drying and cleaning up after major water intrusion, such as from a flood, in ways that eliminate the possibility of secondary damage such as mold and bacteria. Formal structural drying processes and technologies include the proper application of water extraction, inspection, evaporation and dehumidification tools. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Water-Extraction Tools

    • Extracting water is the primary step in the structural drying process. Structural drying companies use water-extracting tools such as the Hydro-X Xtreme Xtractor. This tool and similar tools are designed to remove up to 97 percent of water from carpets, padding and other surfaces without damaging the property.

    Inspection Tools

    • After extraction, companies inspect the property to find water intrusion areas they can't immediately see. They use tools such as moisture probes, thermo hygrometers and moisture meters.

    Evaporation Tools

    • Next, companies use evaporation or drying tools such as certrifugal air movers and axial fans to dry affected areas. In hard-to-reach areas, companies may use an interior drying system such as the Driforce Interair Drying System.

    Dehumidification Tools

    • Evaporation procedures increase the humidity or moisture in the air. To remove the humidity, companies use dehumidifiers such as the Phoenix 200 Max Lgr Dehumidifier.
