Ethical Evaluations

Ethics are an integral part of the business world. Ethical standards are created by companies in an effort to shape and guide how employees behave. The goal of an ethical program is for individuals to act with integrity, morality and good judgment when it comes to business dealings.

  1. Significance

    • Employers often conduct ethical evaluations to ensure that the workforce is adhering to ethical standards and not acting in a way that jeopardizes the integrity of a company. Catching unethical behavior early on protects the company and its workers from liability issues that could arise in the future, such as lawsuits.

    Program

    • Businesses can evaluate the ethical construct of the workforce by first developing an ethical program for the company. According to the ASAE Foundation, ethical programs teach employees how to address ethical issues and how to report unethical acts witnessed in the workplace. Once a standard for ethics is developed by the company, it can monitor how well or how poorly the workforce complies with the program.

    Process

    • Ethical evaluations are conducted by collecting data on ethical issues that are reported in the workplace as well as studying individual employee behaviors. During employee performance reviews, supervisors can ask questions relative to ethical issues and rate their employees as either having strong or weak ethics.
