Technical Guide to Hot Water Boiler Systems
The choice of domestic central heating boiler often determines the method by which hot water is supplied. There are essentially two methods: instantaneous water heating and hot water storage. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Combination Boiler
-
A combination boiler heats water for domestic central heating, but also provides instant hot water for sinks, baths and showers. Faucets are fed directly from the mains rather than from a hot water storage cylinder, making this type of boiler system ideal for properties where space is at a premium.
Storage Tank
-
Adding a hot water storage tank to a combination boiler system means that two or more faucets can be operated at the same time with no reduction in flow rate. Furthermore, unlike a conventional boiler and storage tank system, no recovery time is required and hot water never runs out.
-
System Boiler
-
A system boiler is a space-saving solution in which all of the major components are included in a single unit. A pump and an expansion vessel, which are usually installed remotely, are built in, along with a safety valve and an automatic air vent.
