Wearing a business suit to your interview shows professionalism to your potential employer.

Before you put on a firefighting uniform, you must complete an interview in business attire. A potential fire station employer wants to confirm that you present a well-kept appearance, whether you are putting out a fire or burning up an interview.

  1. For Men

    • Wear a dark-colored suit with a solid-colored shirt to your oral firefighter interview. Avoid patterns in your shirt and necktie if possible. Don't wear brightly colored items to the interview; it doesn't look professional.

    For Women

    • Wear a tailored suit with dark-colored stockings. The suit should not use flashy colors. Conservative colors such as dark blue, black, brown and camel are recommended for professionalism. Wool or linen suits look more natural.

    Clothes to Avoid

    • Women should avoid wearing pant suits to firefighter interviews. Men should not wear slacks. Do not wear clothes that are overly tight or brightly colored. Your clothes should say that you are there for an interview, not a date.
