Replace older washing machines with Energy Star models to reduce energy costs.

Products with the Energy Star label are guaranteed to save consumers in energy costs. They are also beneficial for the environment, since they release significantly less greenhouse gases and use less energy than non-Energy Star rated products. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Savings

    • According to EnergyStar.gov, Energy Star washing machines are 30 percent more efficient than non-qualified products. When compared with washing machines that are more than 10 years old, Energy Star models reduce energy bills by $135 per year.

    Specifications

    • Energy Star washers must meet strict energy and water usage requirements. The Modified Energy Factor, which measures energy performance, must be greater than or equal to 2.0 as of January 2011, as opposed to 1.26 for the minimum federal standard. The Water Factor, which measures water usage, must be no more than 6, as opposed to 9.5 for non-Energy Star products.

    Function

    • Part of the reason that Energy Star washing machines use less energy is that although they have longer cycles, they use much smaller amounts of hot water than older or non-qualified models.
