What Do Pea Seeds Need to Grow?

Temperature

Pea seeds sprout quickly at 75 degrees Fahrenheit, which is the optimal growing temperature. Pea plants are a cool-season crop, which grow when temperatures range between 40 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

Considerations

Pea seeds sprout in well-draining soil with a pH level in the 5.9 to 6.5 range. Remove the rocks and debris from the soil before planting your pea seeds. Mix in a 2-inch layer of compost into the top 8 inches of soil.

Environment

Plant the pea seeds in an area of full sunlight. If growing peas in a hot climate, then plant the seeds in an area with afternoon shade. The soil needs to stay moist will the pea seeds grow.
