Freije Magnetic Water Treatment
Indiana-based engineering company, Freije, manufactures and sells a magnetic water treatment technology for use in commercial and residential water systems. The company claims the device prevents scale buildup by changing the chemical consistency of water. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Function
-
The magnetic water treatment device consists of a wire wrapped around a pipe of any material. An electric signal is send through the wire and pipe causing a stir in the water. The movement caused by the signal supposedly hinders molecules from sticking to the pipes and prevents lime scale.
Benefits
-
Unlike conventional descalers and water softeners, the magnetic treatment device offered by Freije does not add salt, chemicals or additives to the water. It also is low maintenance and does not require a separate drain or additional water resources for regeneration.
-
Considerations
-
In 2010, Freije charges between $850 and $2,000 for their magnetic water treatment devices. However, research by Penn State University and independent laboratories has not been able to prove magnetic devices can reduce scaling and soften the water.
