How Do Stay-Fresh Corsage Stems Work?

Stay-fresh stems are often featured in a wristband or pin-on corsage.

Stay-fresh stems store water that keeps the flowers in a corsage hydrated when you are wearing them for a special event or wedding. The taped wire stems replace the actual stems of the flowers in a corsage or boutonniere.

  1. Features

    • An absorbent section of material made from flocked florist wire tops the say-fresh stem. A small piece of the stem wire protrudes from the tube-like section of material.

    Function

    • The florist soaks the absorbent material in water that is mixed with floral preservative for a period of 10 seconds or until it is saturated.

    Process

    • The flower stem is cut from the calyx, just below the blossom. The floral designer holds the flower in one hand while pressing the artificial stem into the center of the area where he has removed the real stem. She pushes the short section of wire that rises out of the absorbent material into the calyx to secure the flower in place.
