Cabinet refacing is an economical and timely alternative to total cabinet replacement. In most cases, the project can be completed while you continue to use your kitchen.

Basics

At minimum, the refacing project includes replacing your existing cabinet doors, drawer fronts and hardware. It may also include replacing molding, counter tops and outdated appliances.

Choices

There are a variety of finish options, colors and styles to choose for your project. Refaced cabinets are constructed from plastic laminate, wood veneer or thermofoil. Plain or designer-look cabinet products are also available.

Cost

The cost of your refacing project depends upon the size of your kitchen as well as your selection of options. Prices can range from $4,000 to $9,000 (as of 2010), including materials, labor, delivery and tax. The price of refacing is significantly less than the cost of total cabinet replacement, which is typically double or triple the cost of cabinet refacing.
