The degree of testing required for job placement varies depending on the degree of difficulty of the job and the dangers involved in the job. Fidelity assessments are a method of testing candidates more accurately for those positions where experience is essential.

Fidelity assessment is the highest degree of testing a facility or project that most closely resembles the action or skill being tested. The higher the complexity of the testing, the closer it comes to the actual action, thus the higher the fidelity of the test.

For example, a video game can test hand and eye coordination for a student wishing to one day become a pilot. However a high fidelity assessment to ensure this pilot can actually fly would be a full flight simulator.

Low Fidelity Vs. High Fidelity

Low fidelity assessments test general knowledge of the action or subject. High fidelity assessments test how the applicant uses the knowledge in the field.
Purpose

High fidelity assessments are essential when the stakes of the test results are higher than average, such as the potential of casualties. The data collected from fidelity assessments is believed to be much higher quality. The data collection process is more efficient and assessment respondents have more positive interactions with the examinations.
