Security Guide for Business Demonstrations & Protests thumbnail
Acknowledge protesters' grievances to reduce chances of violence.

Actions of corporations do not always inspire a protest. An entire industry could be blamed for the actions of one company and incite a riot of protesters. To protect employees, your security team should follow clear guidelines of actions.

  1. Legal Protests

    • Educate all security personnel on free speech rights and free assembly rights. Train them to identify what is considered legal and illegal when it comes to protests and demonstrations.

    Local Police

    • Notify the police as soon as you learn that there will be a protest or a demonstration. Follow their instructions, as the protest can be legally sanctioned via permits.

    Communication Methods

    • Meet with the protest organizers. Evaluate the mission of the protest organizers and the potential outcome of the events that may be scheduled for the protest. Establish an open line of communication between the demonstration organizers and the ranking members of the security team.

    Digital Protests

    • Build technology systems which will block spam and junk mail. Demonstrations can be digital via viruses as well. Direct your employees to forward junk mail to a specified e-mail within your IT department. Direct the IT department to identify Internet protesters in advance.
