Stihl Chainsaw Engine Specs

Stihl chainsaws use proprietary single-cylinder two-stroke engines that are available in many different sizes. The size and power of engines used in Stihl chainsaws are defined by the displacement, stroke and bore of the engine.

Light Duty

Stihl makes a variety of chainsaws for light or occasional use. These saws use smaller engines and support smaller guide bars. Engines in this category have displacement ratings that range from 30.1 cc to 45.4 cc.

Medium Duty

Stihl's medium-duty chainsaws are designed for regular or occasional use in a home or seasonal setting. These saws support larger guide bars from 16 to 20 inches in size. Stihl's medium-duty saws have engine displacements of 50 to 64.1 cc with a power output of 2.5 to 3.3 kW.

Professional Level

Stihl's professional-grade chainsaws are designed for constant use for timber harvesting, agricultural or firefighting work. These saws have the most powerful engines with displacement ratings of 50.2 to 121.6 cc.

Electric

Stihl also makes three electric chain saws with an engine power rating of 1400, 1700 or 1800 watts. These saws are designed to operate using American voltage standards -- 120 volts at 60 Hz.
