Florida Palms & Trees Information

Florida's tropical climate makes for a very diverse plant life. According to the website Tree Ware, Florida has about 450 species of native shrubs and trees. Among the trees that are native to Florida are a number of palm trees.

Florida Sugar Maple

Florida sugar maple (Acer saccharum var. Floridanum) is an evergreen tree with a rapid growth rate and a mature height of 20 to 40 feet.

River Birch

River birch (Betula nigra) is among the trees well-suited for wet sites. The native Florida tree is deciduous and grows 45 to 65 feet tall.

Cabbage Palm

Cabbage palm (Sabal palmetto) is a palm tree native to Florida. The slow-growing palm grows to a height of 35 feet. Cabbage palm is hardy to 10 degrees Fahrenheit.

Florida Thatch Palm

The University of Florida IFAS Extension website lists Florida thatch palm (Thrinax radiate) as a native palm of Florida. The palm grows up to 20 feet in height and has a high tolerance for salt.
