Orchid Growing Guidelines
Orchids are flowering tropical plants that require little care. Although orchids have specific cultivation requirements, they are not finicky plants and will thrive as long as their basic needs are met. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Light and Temperature
-
Orchids do best when they have daytime temperatures around 70 degrees Fahrenheit and nighttime temperatures between 55 and 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Place them in a window that has bright indirect light for 12 hours a day or provide artificial lighting.
Watering
-
Water the orchid once a week, allowing the potting mix to dry out between waterings. When you water the orchid, water it deeply enough so that the water runs out the drainage hole. Do not over water the orchid, as this will kill it.
-
Growing Medium
-
Do not grow orchids in regular potting soil, as they require better drainage than potting soil can provide. Instead, use sphagnum moss, sifted perlite, coconut chips or peat moss.
