Spray Tan Requirements
Spray tans provide an alternate way to achieve golden brown skin while avoiding the damaging rays of the sun. Fake tans have improved dramatically over the years, but they're not foolproof. Attaining an enviable tan requires a bit of know-how and preparation. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Exfoliate Beforehand
-
The day before applying color, scrub the skin to remove dead skin cells or your tan might look speckled. For best results, Susie Hatton of the Chocolate Sun Studio recommends using a non-oily scrub or a special abrasive mitt, since residual oil can prevent the color from adhering properly.
Moisturizing and Clothing
-
Coat scabs and scars with petroleum jelly to prevent a buildup of color on them, and dab a thin veil of moisturizer on knees, elbows, eyebrows, nails, palms and the soles of your feet to ensure a smooth tan in all the right places. Dress in dark, loose-fitting clothes because the color will rub off on them to some degree. Wait 20 minutes before getting dressed, and go braless, if possible, for the next six hours.
-
Maintenance
-
A spray tan lasts up to 10 days with the right care. Do not get wet for eight hours after the color is applied, but after that, slather on moisturizer regularly. Do not exfoliate the skin for at least a week and shave only when necessary.
