DVD Burning Problems With Dell Laptops
Your Dell laptop's DVD burner is a valuable tool to make backups of your data or burn DVD movies when you're on the go. Sometimes, however, you may run into disc burning problems.
-
Hardware Functionality
-
Because your Dell laptop is exposed to the elements more than is a desktop, dirt, dust and other debris are more likely get inside. Regularly clean your laptop with canned air and a computer vacuum, if you have one. Use a CD cleaning disc in your drive to clean the laser reading/recording lens. Also, ensure that your drive's firmware version is up to date.
Software Problems
-
Your DVD burning software also is a primary culprit in burning problems. Update to the latest version of the application and make sure that the drivers are up to date. If you suspect that your software is at fault, download a freeware DVD burning application to test it out. If it is able to burn a DVD without issues, then you've isolated the software as the source of the problem.
-
DVD Media
-
Faulty or incorrect media is the third major source of burning problems. It's possible that the blank disc itself is bad, or perhaps the entire spindle of discs. Try burning using a disc from another manufacturer. Also, make sure the discs you are burning are the correct format for your drive. Most DVD drives nowadays are compatible with most formats, but it's possible that your drive is DVD-RW only and your discs are DVD+RW, which are incompatible.
