Dealer Recommended Service Schedule for a 1999 Volvo S80
Every automobile manufacturer creates a recommended maintenance schedule for each model it builds. The Volvo S80's schedule is designed to keep the vehicle running properly for as long as possible.
-
Engine Oil
-
Most car owners are aware of the three-month or 3,000-mile oil change intervals set by the repair industry. Volvo recommends the S80's engine oil to be changed every 7,500 miles.
Air Filters
-
The engine air filter prevents dust and debris from entering the combustion chamber. When this gets clogged, it can cause poor engine performance and, in severe cases, even engine damage. Volvo recommends that the S80's air filter be replaced every 30,000 miles. The cabin air filter prevents outside dust and debris from getting into the cabin. Volvo recommends replacement every 15,000 miles.
-
Spark Plugs
-
In years past, a tuneup included spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and timing. In most newer vehicles, the 1999 S80 included, only the spark plugs need to be replaced, as the other components have been eliminated. Volvo recommends that the spark plugs be changed every 30,000 miles in the 1999 S80.
Timing Belt
-
The timing belt is the internal belt of the vehicle. This belt keeps the valves and pistons, inside the engine, in proper synchronization with each other and the vehicle's ignition. Because the 1999 S80 has an interference engine, meaning severe engine damage can happen if this belt breaks, Volvo recommends this belt be replaced every 105,000 miles.
